It all started with a brand redesign.
Their product was designed and built almost 10 years ago, and it's age was starting to show.
Our new branding focuses on confidence and security.
We chose these themes based on SecureClose's company core values, and what we knew we wanted to subconsciously convey to customers from the moment they opened the product.
Branding and Product Style
To convey trust and security, we chose blue colors, sharp lines, clear icons, and a minimalist design style.
We decided to synthesize and combine their separate products.
Over time and with different developers, SecureClose had multiple related products on different tech stacks and platforms, making the user experience of moving between different tools confusing.
A Roadmap was formed shortly after Discovery.
We grouped the product into two large phases: Dealer Product and Signer Product. Each phase had it's own discovery phase and feature development iterations.
Each phase was kept organized and had PRDs and Documentation inside.
Organization of such a large product was critical. More details on the PRDs to come in the next section!
For each feature, we create a PRD.
A PRD (Product Requirements Document) is foundational to how we approach product. It contains the background of why we are developing a feature, what it does, who it's for, and what the core goals of the feature are. Completing it requires a deep discovery and effort from both the development team and client.
Once we had a PRD, we needed a user journey through that feature.
User Journeying is also an extremely collaborative process. We leaned heavily on the SecureClose team for knowledge and expertise in their business and for key insights about their customers and their behavior to make a new UX that suited their needs perfectly.
Once we had a PRD and User Journey, we started desiging!
Once we found an initial "look" that everyone was happy with, we start rapidly designing and expanding the new SecureClose ecosystem.
And designing...
Adding various states, pages, components, and building out a design system along the way.
Looping in engineers along the way.
Engineers knew exactly what to plan for every step of the way, and we had constant communication to ensure the technical future of every feature.
And more designing...
Until the feature is complete and ready to review with the team!
Then we'd move to the next feature!
Each feature needs a User Journey and PRD before we start designing so that we know exactly what the designs need to do.
Repeat PRD, User Journey, Design, Review until design is done!
The process is repetitive, but never dull. Every feature has it's own challenges and unique solutions.
Finish with Engineering Documentation.
Engineering Documentation spells out (in painstaking detail) exactly what each screen is, the various design states and how a user moves through them, and all the small details engineers need to actually understand the product.
